Last Friday night the shoppette hosted an "Art Soiree" at which people could taste wine and beer. Like last time we had one of these, I was the "lucky" guy that had the pleasure of working at this wine and beer tasting. I myself do not drink alcohol because I personally believe it is wrong, but also I know how to have a good time without poisoning myself. At the event people could sample over 60 different types of wine and 30 types of beer.
They had the event at the Officer's Club on base, which reminded me of a funeral home. It had a musty smell to it and they were playing music that had to be from the 40's or 50's.
I was there to set up the retail part of the tasting. After the people sampled the various types of wine and beer they could come back into our room and buy them. Last time, when we had just a wine tasting, mostly older people came to it and I was able to keep busy, but this time since it was beer too it attracted the younger crowd, and I got bored because nobody needed anything carried out for them.
Later on, closer to the end of the event, things started to get interesting. I grew up in a Christian home and I was never really allowed to go out to "parties." I guess you could say I led a sheltered life, but I do not regret it for one minute. Friday night I saw the most drunk people that I have ever seen before in my life. Last time at the wine tasting nobody really got all that drunk, but this time they were plastered. The worst part about it was the higher ranking people were the ones that were the most drunk.
At the end of the night, when we were packing things up, one of the main Officers over the base came into the room. I could tell he had had a little too much to drink, when he started interrogating me. He asked me where I was going to school and I told him LSUS. Then, he asked me what my major was and I told him Marketing and he replied, "Marketing! What the H*** are you gonna do with that?" I stood there for a couple of seconds and did not answer him and just loaded my dolly and left the room. That question did not even deserve an answer. When I was coming back for another load, Josh, another guy that was helping out, told me that he was yelling for me because he needed me to take a picture of him and my bosses. I was thinking to myself, why does he need me? Anybody can take a picture, but I guess it was the alcohol talking. When I got back in there he yells, "JIMMY, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN, I NEED YOU TO TAKE A PICTURE." By now I'm just cracking up, laughing inside, because this guy is making a fool of himself and he wont even remember what happened in the morning. Hopefully I don't ever have to work at one of these things again, and if I do hopefully It will only be a wine tasting.

I am a marketing major also, and there are a million things you can do with a marketing degree. I grew up in a christian house, and was shelter quite a bit myself. I went kinda of crazy when I first moved out and went to college 2 hours away from home. I really respect that you have kept your values and morals high. Never let anyone take that away from you.

That beer tasting event sounds fun. I kinda understand where you are coming from. My life was not sheltered by my parents, but I didn't go to parties and clubs. I'm still shy to a certain point. If I get to know a person well enough to have a conversation with them, then I will talk to them. It takes a while for me to open up. If you ever read my blogs, it might contradict what I just said. Good blog!
